Incubation
In short, an artist's creative process is the unique way in which each artist develops their work in their artistic practice. In the creative process, the artist enters a deep state of dedication to carrying out research and practical and theoretical executions, as well as viewing images, films, exhibitions, etc. in order to stimulate his mind towards creation.
At the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, in an attempt to formalize my thinking and creative process and subsequent work development, I created a unique space. A cell inside the Faculty where I took refuge and isolated myself for moments from the outside world. A space that functioned as a uterus where works were developed and conceived, later after their gestation they were brought outside to be seen by the “world”, like a child when it is born.
The walls were a kind of graphic diary, containing information that accompanied me throughout the development of the work, and where I placed models of ideas that helped me materialize other works. Images of what was happening inside were periodically projected onto the outside of this uterus, as if they were ultrasounds.
In this work process, one of the proposals created was the materialization of studies for artistic mechanisms created by me, which allowed the visualization of works, giving the observer the possibility of getting closer to the work. He could touch and put the mechanisms into operation and in this way nullified the distance created between the observer and the work, for example in a museum or gallery, hoping for a deeper understanding between the observer and the art.
